Qué (quién) es hypersensitivity reaction - definición

INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE TO AN EXOGENOUS ENVIRONMENTAL ANTIGEN OR AN ENDOGENOUS ANTIGEN INITIATED BY THE ADAPTIVE IMMUNE SYSTEM

Hypersensitivity
Hypersensitivity (also called hypersensitivity reaction or intolerance) refers to undesirable reactions produced by the normal immune system, including allergies and autoimmunity. They are usually referred to as an over-reaction of the immune system and these reactions may be damaging and uncomfortable.
Type IV hypersensitivity
INFLAMMATORY RESPONSE DRIVEN BY T CELL RECOGNITION OF PROCESSED SOLUBLE OR CELL-ASSOCIATED ANTIGENS, LEADING TO CYTOKINE RELEASE AND LEUKOCYTE ACTIVATION
Type IV hypersensitivity reaction; Type IV Hypersensitivity; Delayed-Type Hypersensitivity; Type IV delayed hypersensitivity reaction; Type 4 hypersensitivity; Delayed-type hypersensitivity response; Delayed hypersensitivity; Type IV (delayed) hypersensitivity; Delayed-type hypersensitivity; Delayed type hypersensitivity; Type-IV hypersensitivity; Type IV allergy; Type IV allergies
Type IV hypersensitivity, often called delayed-type hypersensitivity, is a type of hypersensitivity reaction that takes several days to develop. Unlike the other types, it is not humoral (not antibody-mediated) but rather is a type of cell-mediated response.
Type III hypersensitivity
HUMAN DISEASE
Immune complex diseases; Immune complex disease; Type III hypersensitivity reaction; Immune complex hypersensitivity; Type 3 hypersensitivity; Type III (immune complex) hypersensitivity; Type III immune response; T3HS; T3hs
Type III hypersensitivity occurs when there is accumulation of immune complexes (antigen-antibody complexes) that have not been adequately cleared by innate immune cells, giving rise to an inflammatory response and attraction of leukocytes. There are three steps that lead to this response.

This is an immunologic term and is not to be confused with the psychiatric term of being hypersensitive which implies to an individual who may be overly sensitive to physical (i.e. sound, touch, light, etc.) and/or emotional stimuli. Hypersensitivity reactions can be classified into four types.

Type I: IgE mediated immediate reaction

Type II: Antibody-mediated reaction (IgG or IgM antibodies)

Type III: Immune complex-mediated reaction

Type IV: Cytotoxic, cell-mediated, delayed hypersensitivity reaction

The first three types are considered immediate hypersensitivity reactions because they occur within 24 hours. The fourth type is considered a delayed hypersensitivity reaction because it usually occurs more than 12 hours after exposure to the allergen, with a maximal reaction time between 48 and 72 hours.

1. Almost any food can trigger a hypersensitivity reaction in sensitized people, but most food allergies in the US are caused by eight major foods÷ milk, eggs, fish, wheat, tree nuts, legumes (particularly peanuts and soybeans), crustaceans and mollusks.
